We’ve all heard this saying before, “You didn’t build that!”, but as the lies continue to trickle, no flood, out of a liberal agenda, we as Christian families have an obligation to build a Christ centered family. Morality, integrity, strength, honor and Christian duty will be the thread that will grow our future citizens. Our foundation of faith, freedom, and liberty will not be destroyed if we are willing to begin the building from within the family. It’s not outdated, it’s understated and is a vital requirement to our future health as a country.
- First, commit your ways to God. Psalm 37:5. He is aware of what you are going through as a family. Committing your ways to Him says you are willing to take His whole Word for Truth. Don’t believe the lie that it is partial truth, nor should it be added to. We are clearly warned about this. Commitment is just like what I have to my husband. I will not cheat on my husband nor will I entertain the option of cheating on God. He requires your commitment to Him and will not be prostituted by cheapening His status. No other Gods before Him Exodus 20:3. Honor Him with your commitment.
- Teach your children. Deut. 11:19-20. Write them on your doorframes, tie them around your neck. Make a habit of talking about all God has done for your family and what He did for generations before you. Just like Nehemiah saw the destruction and poor condition of the walls around Jerusalem, he set forth to make the petition to rebuild. He recruited families to rebuild the portion near their homes. They were not only strengthening the walls together as a family but strengthening the walls for an entire city. The task seemed impossible but a little at time, day by day, those walls were rebuilt.
- Provide protection. Parents, we are our families protection. I’m not saying over protecting or being one of the hover parents that goes off to college with your kids. Be your child’s advocate. Without overreacting, investigate anything you may be concerned about and be their defense. Back up your defense with reasons. If you are concerned about safety or if something doesn’t settle well, by all means you are their parent and have a right to know.
- Teach integrity: Integrity is one of the greatest gifts your family can possess. It does the right thing even when no one is looking. Teach that even stepping away from the crowd to choose what’s right will not go without reward. For our Heavenly Father who sees what’s done in secret will reward. Integrity treasures the price of truth over instant gratification.
- Hold up your family name. Without going over to the side of perfectionist, emphasis the importance of a good name. Be a family that protects its name. Calling ourselves Christians also gives us a name who we call out to. Call out to Him with your family, protecting and holding high the name above all names! Remember most of all, if you deny me before men, I will deny you before my Father. Stand up for His name in your community, our country, our schools, and our government. Don’t be ashamed to require that of those you elect into office. See if your government officials stood with or against important issues. You will see where their hearts are according to where they put their vote. The proof is in the pudding.
We did build that! Build for endurance, build for the long haul and never quit! May your families walls be strengthened today as you choose this day who you will serve!
