We got a phone call in the a.m. The neighbor next door informed us that we had a bull out. So after finishing breakfast we saddled up horses and loaded them in the trailer. After briefly scanning the pasture as we drove along without much trouble we found him. The charolais bull had a buddy, another one of the bulls had ventured out with him. The black bull is a rascal and jumped back over the fence upon our horseback approach. The charolais decided that looked good and tried to do the same. His attempt failed so he thought he would ram into my son’s horse….second attempt….it failed. A few minutes later, he submitted and walked through the gate to our pasture.
Do you ever wonder why we try to get over into someone else’s business or why we sometimes think someone else’s life is better than our own? I’ve been there before when I have wanted something someone else had or I wonder what it would be like to live in that house? I wouldn’t say I never do that anymore, I won’t lie. Sometimes I think, I like that horse, or I really like that truck, those shoes, that sweater. O.k…..this list could go on and on!
I like what Paul says about contentment…”But godliness with contentment is great gain”…1 Tim. 6:6
What an amazing feeling to be free from being or looking like someone else. I don’t know if it’s my age or if I just love what we are doing but the freedom is incredible. After losing our house to a wildfire not to many years ago, we lost everything. It was pretty hard…really hard, but something happened in the process. Things well, just lost there luster! Don’t get me wrong, I do still like some stuff. But my whole focus isn’t about stuff or how I’m going to get it.
I’m sure to those bulls, the grass did look greener. I’m sure after plowing over the fence they thought they had accomplished quite a feat! It’s funny, one bull followed the other, hum…that sounds familiar. And the best part of the day, putting the bull back where he belonged. It took a little persuading, a little leading, and a little pushing but the goal was accomplished.
