When I pull up to the feeder at headquarters I pull underneath a good size feeder that holds quite a bit of feed, my husband knows exactly how many pounds it holds, but for the sake of this post I will avoid going in to wake him to ask….”Hey honey, how much does the feeder at headquarters hold?” That may need to be post for later…..Random Questions I Ask My Man. So after pullin’ under the feeder, I check to make sure I’m lined up to the spot that gets me directly underneath the feed sleeve. I get out of the truck, open the bin on the truck feeder and then I pull the lever that pours out from the overhead feeder. I call this my spa time….because I usually get a good build up of feed all over me, no matter where I stand, I have not mastered being completely clean. The feed all over my face……the ranch wife’s exfoliant! Just a note here, some ranchers are able to pull right up to their feeder, open their truck feed bin, and pull a lever from the driver’s seat window. I just didn’t want you to be misled and ask some rancher’s wife about her spa treatment at the feed bin and get a look of confussion….the spa is only for a select few….and I am amongst them! After closing the bin, then I’m off.
You see there’s more to the feeder than meets the eye and it lines up to how, when, and where we get filled up. It even has something to do with what we fill up with. Many times we try to fill up with everything but God’s Word. I don’t think there’s anyone on the face of the earth who hasn’t tried to fill up on other things. Some other things might be people pleasing, overspending, being perfect, addictions, or putting others on a pedestal. What happens in this case is that the very thing we are trying to fill up on only leaves us feeling empty. People fail, things can leave us lonely, and overspending will leave us broke.
A good quality of feed is needed when feeding cattle and much research and millions of dollars are spent on feed science. In fact, my father-in-law, aka Gramps, has his masters in meat science, which involved intense nutrition studies. If you want a mini course in feeds and feeding, he’s the man. Quality in the Word of God, involves putting the good stuff in us, with our whole mind and soul! When we pour it in by reading, listening, devoting time to it, and even memorizing it……nothing compare, and nothing else can fill it. God made us to have a relationship with Him.
We can be reassured that if we know His Son Jesus, the we have eternal life, John 3:16. Our salvation doesn’t depend on us or how much time we spend in prayer. Let me also say, that if when we know Him, we want to know more of Him. You see, feeding is not a hard task, but if I forget to feed or my husband doesn’t feed then the cattle would starve……there’s no way we would do that! Just imagine what we look like as Christians if we had a steady feeding on God’s Word. Imagine the difference in our conversations, our families, and our marriages. Now, that sounds like a good feed run……..hope to see ya at the feeder!
