October is Pastor Appreciation Month, I know, probably never heard of it. I promise I’m not making it up so that ya’ll send goodies to the house. Although, if you feel a strong prompting by God, here’s our address. I’m just joking!!!!
Living with a pastor, who never dreamt he would even be a pastor, I would like to say….Thank you! Not only to the one living here but for all of you out their who preach the Good News! I can’t imagine life without you! To all that teach and want to see future generations know Jesus. Thank you!
Has a pastor made an impact on your life?
- Think about who introduced you to Christ
Thank you mom and thank you to that Sunday School teacher in Ontario, California. I will never forget that Sunday for the rest of my life. I still believe!
- Think about who married you…..
Thank you, Burdett Hitt, for marrying me and Wendel
- Who dedicated your children……
Thank you, Max and Jeanie Tipton
- Do you remember when you were baptized, your spouse……or who baptized your kids…
Thank you, the pastor in Phoenix, Az, that I can’t remember your name, but I can clearly see your face. I had the awesome privilege of seeing my spouse baptized, thank you, Wendell Parr, yes his name was Wendel, just like my spouse. My oldest son, thank you, South Side Baptist Pastor, and my pastor man baptized our youngest.
- Those who teach small groups and Sunday school….
One of the best we ever had, Garrett and Risa Starr, you were also there during one of the hardest times in our life. Thank you for rallying the troops to help us with our income when we had NONE! Who would have ever thought a colt could cause a five hour surgery, a week in the hospital, and nearly a year before Wendel was able to train horses again.
- Those who inspire and cause you to step out of your comfort zone…..
Thank you Larry and Anita Kreuger and especially Paul and Rhonda Howie, who saw our love for youth and then to take a call to become a Cowboy Pastor….never would have imagined or stepped up without these incredible men.
- Those who take the late night phone calls we’d wish we didn’t have to make………
Thank you Ward and Jenna Hayes, for coming when mom passed away, Jenna even did the dishes and was just part of our family. That act alone meant the world to us!………….
Those who visit when our families are sick…….
All those who came during hard times, boys horseback concussions, Jake’s care flight, my miscarriage, my parents final battles, and my sister who brought soup, in the rain, when our whole family had the flu. Sorry you got stuck on our suckey road, and that I bent your bumper pulling you out with the tractor, I should have hooked on to the frame instead, I was too busy throwing up!!
- Have you ever had someone pray with you about a job……
Thank you Paul, you may not have known you did this, but one of your sermons convinced us that God had a plan for us!
- Helping us say, goodbye for now, to our loved ones….
Thank you for doing my mom’s funeral service, Ward Hayes
And thank you Hank Elliott for doing my dad’s service….you both did them an honor
- Being a confident friend..
Thank you to my favorite pastor, my most confident, trustworthy and compassionate friend and spouse. Thank you for listening to my struggles as your wife. I love being married to you and wouldn’t want it any other way!
Thank you for leading me and being an example for our family! I Love you!
Just think back to the person who introduced you to Christ. Even if that person was not a “pastor”, this might be a good time to give them a call and tell them, “thank you”. It might have been a Sunday School Teacher, a school teacher, a neighbor, a youth leader, parents, a friend, or even a spouse. Think about the gift of knowing Christ and what life might have looked like if you hadn’t met Jesus. Because that person stepped up to the call our lives were changed.
The Great Commission is for all us, found in Matthew 28:19-20: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Who was it that introduced you to Christ? Think back to all those who have preached or taught you something about Christ, even if you can’t personally call them, maybe you could just thank God for what they did for you. Thanks for reading
