Not long ago I was making a feed run, while Wendel tended to shoein’ our horses. I had lots on my mind and a long list….first mistake…..long list! So off I went, hurrying down to headquarter, fill up the feeder and off to make the feed run. How long was this gonna take?…..let’s see, is it possible to open gates a little faster? Oh yea, don’t forget, check those waters, I’d sure be asked about them when I got back…can you tell this has happened before?
Next, let’s see, where are those cattle? A little clearing of the layer of dirt on the spectacles, a glace over to the mesa and back to the road to miss the big rock on the second curve. A little closer to the windmill I spot a pretty good group and pull up to start counting. This part, I have learned takes a bit of time……I don’t know about you but those cattle don’t stand still for you to count them and I always have to get on the back of the flatbed to get a better view. Let’s see….let’s see…what’s the other questions I will be asked when I get back…….oh yea, calves, how many? Did 607 come up? Did you turn the windmill back on? Oh no, did I turn the oven off?………wait….that’s not a question Wendel will ask, that’s on me! Doesn’t every woman do that? Back on track, I count, set the lbs. on the feeder and click out the right amount.
So you get the general picture, driving, counting, feeding, waters…..check, check, and check! As I race back home to do some stuff in the house, like wash last nights dinner dishes and fold a load of laundry, I realize the most crutial thing…..It’s an abolutely beautiful day and I had missed it all morning. I realized I had this hot husband at home flexin’ his muscles while holding up a horses hoof, I’m crazy about him. We are getting the opprutunity to do what we love…….I think you really appreciate these things when you have experienced the not so good days, the jobs you really dreaded, and those days you didn’t see eye to eye with your spouse.
Do I still make list? Do I still get in a hurry ? Why of coarse I do……..I even talk to myself when no one is around, just jokin’, I also talk to myself when people are around! The point is, thank you God that moments of appreciation that can give us a whole new way of looking at things. We can do the things we love or the things we don’t love so much with a heart that is truly thankful. Hope no matter what you are doing today, whether it’s a really hard day for you or a good day, that you look around and give thanks…..
