Do ya’ll ever feel like the weight of the world is upon you? I mean there’s certainly news everyday more outlandish than from the day before. There’s disagreements, division, fear of sickness, jobloss and horrific sex trafficing. There’s an increase of abuse, divorce, depression, addicition and suicide..unfortunately. No doubt this has been a heavy year. Can someone please wake me..I feel like I’m in an episode of “The Twilight Zone.”
Then it occurred to me, God also had an appointed time to which we would live in this world. He created us for “such a time as this”. He knows everything about us, our DNA, the number of hairs on our heads, our short comings and strengths. That being said, He knew we, as His children, are capable of carrying on the Good News, and the good works, to which He called us, even in times like this. But it is critical that we seek Him, take action, and guard our hearts at the same time.
It is not a time for us to bury our head in the sand, or to fear, or to give up on things we feel strongly about but it is a time to love Him more, and love His truth more. The constant fear that has so rapidly spread through our communities, our states, and our Country is out of control and I’ve had enough…haven’t you?
I’ve seen the post where people are asking…what do we do?…how do we face days like this? Instead of my opinion I had to dive in for myself. What does God instruct us to do when we are up to our eyeballs in CRAP!
- Spend Time in the Bible. The most valuable thing is for us to absolutely love truth. So much so that we enjoy, increase in good deeds, and keep ourselves in God’s Word. Sharpening our listening ear to that of the Holy Spirit. Is He telling you to repent? Is He calling you come back to holiness? Is your heart heavy? Is He calling you to be bold? To fight for something you see slipping away? Is He calling you to stand up? Certainly we can see through our Biblical history all of these circumstances. The Bible doesn’t leave us short of answers but instead gives us clarity if we take the time to look and seek Him!
- Encourage Others to Stay in Their Calling. By doing this you are reassuring those who are feeling worthless to get back to work on the job God has called them to. Being captive in our own homes is jail…go back to work and quickly! Do you think the attack on the church is coincidence? The enemy is running rampant and his hopes is that the church stay silent.
- Enjoy the Company of Others. We’ve had a revolving door lately and it’s been crazy. I’m going to be honest, it’s not always me or my husband initiating it. Now though, we are growing in our understanding of Biblical hospitality. It looks so different than the world view of it. It doesn’t revolve around perfect house keeping and “cool” pinterest dishes. Romans 12:11 says, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
- Exercise. Yes…walk, do strength training..anything to get the ole heart pumping. Get active everyday, it’s free, and beneficial to your health and mind. Even more so exercise your faith, it won’t increase unless you hear the word of God. And exercise your rights as citizens. “Physical training has some benefit but godliness has value for all things” 1 Tim. 4:8
- Have a Prayer Closet and Use it. Every time I feel overwhelmed…no doubt I have spent less time praying about problems and more time worry about them. Plus my focus becomes “problem focused”, instead of “God focused”. There’s no way I can possible handle the burden being dished out right now. I have to unload this! I have to “cast my cares on Him because He cares for me!” 1 Peter 5:7. Also, I need to listen…is He calling me to action? Often I need to go call someone or do something. If I wait to long, I usually talk myself out of it. Do quickly what God instructs you to do.
- Overcome Evil with Good. Romans 12:21. What good can you do today? Can you imagine what would happen if we filled up social media with the good God is doing. In this world of division, let’s be a body of believers standing together doing good.
- Get Off Social Media for the Majority of Your Day. There’s times I’ve wanted to leave it completely but it does give us a platform for sharing Christ and what we feel strongly about. Even if some of my post have been hidden or taken down! Gonna share until I can’t any longer!!
- Finally Work Out Your Salvation. The Christian life isn’t easy. Phil. 2, gives us instruction for times such as these…read until the end! It’s a good one. We can’t just love Jesus and remain faithful in the good times but the working out of salvation is done with fear and trembling to assure we are God’s workmanship, even in hard days.
These eight things…I am seriously working on. I don’t want to run away when things are tough. I don’t want to be overwhelmed by them…which I have, at times. I have no doubt my trust in Christ must continue to develop into whatever the days ahead look like.
Help us Lord to not let our love for you grow cold! Let us be the church who remembers our first love. Let us be called among the faithful. Let us not lose fellowship with one another. We are your people, let us be bold and fervent in your word. Amen
Thank you for reading and please share with me something you’ve done to keep your sanity in these crazy times? I love hearing from you..
