I Love……
- The Team: I love the team that worked so hard to put together this event. The ones who lined up announcers, a judge, people to settle and switch out cattle. The concession stand workers and cooks, book keepers, and advertisers. The ones that let us use their incredible arena for this particular event.
- A Place Where We Honor Our Country: I love seeing everyone remove their hats and stop everything they’re doing when our U.S. flag enters the arena. The red and blue that pops above a loping horse, I drift off for a moment and wonder about triumphant men who carried it horseback, perhaps surging through their fellow comrades in a victorious celebration.
- That We Pray: With hats still off, with heads bowed a humble pray is offered. I look around and notice even little ones stopping their rambunctious play upon the prompting of parents. There’s times I’d like to freeze that moment and stay a little longer!
- Family Picnics on Flatbeds: I love seeing everyone’s flatbed backed up to the arena. The make shift stand with folding chairs, ice chest, and a clear view. A boundary for little ones to play. Family gathered together. Overdue visits made by friends as they hop up on the flatbed to sit beside ya.
- Seeing Your Father-in-Law Work His Horse: Pretty inspiring right there! Gramps I’m about to reveal your age…….76…..and out there cuttin’ it up! Can I have your horse? Never mind, I’d probably be picking dirt from between each tooth when he dumps me off …..ugh! You amaze me!
- Ranch Kids: It doesn’t take those ranch kids long to find something to entertain them! I’m pretty sure you can’t buy these kind of games. Let’s see, there was a game of horseback tag going on, some bug catching in a coke bottle, the ropin’ chute became a jungle gym, and probably shouldn’t mention the horse trough….I didn’t see a thing!
- The Last Pup to Be Given Away: It seems like at any ranch event or rodeo there’s always that last pup to be given away and a couple of kids luggin it around. The pups stomach usually pokin’ out, legs dangling, a kid shouting…”Mom, can I……” from a few trucks away you hear some mom shouting back before the full sentence escapes……”No, you can’t….we’ve already got seven at home!” Later you see that pup retired under the shade of it’s new owners pick up truck, a satisfied kid plopped down beside em in the dirt.
- The Culture: There just something to be said about the cowboy culture. A rider waiting for someone else to ride through the gate. A young man makes the offer to bring back food from the concession for any takers. Request for turn back help? No problem! Yes and No maam’s and sirs, second nature.
- Friendly Competition: There have been some pretty talented riders and horses at these events but I love the attitude of others. The celebration of a good run, the pat on the back for the next time. The talk of that certain horse, without bragging. The thank you’s from the rider who did well when congratulated.
- The Relationship with Christ: The main reason for all the above. To have a Christ centered event that introduces, strengthen, and encourage our walk with Christ!
1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT
Whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, you must do all for the glory of God
Is there something you love about a ranch cuttin’ or any other event ? Hope you have a great evening and would love to hear from you.
