Oh the sound of jingle bells, kids in coveralls and beanies, moms rushing around to Christmas School plays. Dad checking waters on the ranch and feeding cattle. This time of year can be pretty hectic. Still need to hunt down that Christmas tree, buy gifts, and make some cookies for the neighbors. All these chores can make it hard for a couple to connect this time of year. So why not turn that “ho-hum” into some Christmas fun.
1. Pack his favorite Christmas cookie into brown sack, tied with burlap. Write in big letter. “You’re My Favorite Treat!”
2. Throw him down in the hay! Bring the mistletoe……
3. Make a feed run with him, play your favorite Cowboy Christmas music
4. Keep things light in your home by not talking about money constantly. This time of year can be pretty stressful. Thank him for ways he provides for your family.
5. Ever been to a Christmas Ball? It might be the year to try one out. What girl doesn’t like to go scoot around the dance floor. Or make your own. Turn off the t.v., shut off cell phones and dance in the kitchen. Even if the kids are around, they will remember this for years to come.
6. Make a Christmas Picnic and enjoy it while wrapped in blankets on the tailgate of the truck. If it’s too cold, bring it in the barn or in front of a nice fire.
7. Pack a thermos of cocoa or coffee, a couple of tin coffee cups. If you’re checking cattle horseback or putting in a cow from the neighbors, it’s nice to pack it along. Not that you can stop in the middle of chasing one thru the brush but it might come in handy if you can’t find her or when you get back.
8. Buy him some new thermal socks, and stuff them down in his boots.
9. Write a little love letter on feed sack, punch out a couple of holes and tie with a simple bow. Stuff it in his coat pocket.
10. Get out the bedrolls and set up camp in your room. Just wait until you see what your efforts will do for him.
Christmas time is a wonderful time of the year. Don’t miss the opportunity to come together as a couple. It’s the best gift of all to give to your kids.
